Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting 121 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday though PCR testing is now only available to those in the highest risk groups.
Active cases sit at 1,362.
There have been 81 recoveries since Tuesday’s report.
The Public Health dashboard reveals fewer people with the virus are currently in hospital.
Sixteen people are currently in hospital with three in the ICU.
That’s down from 18 and five the day before.
There are 15 active outbreaks, four of them at Quinte Health Care hospitals, according to the Public Health dashboard.
Three of the outbreaks are at Belleville General Hospital, declared between December 29 and January 3.
Two of those outbreaks are connected to two cases each while three are linked to the other outbreak.
The fourth outbreak is at Trenton Memorial Hospital, affecting two people.
QHC President and CEO Stacey Daub was to address the media Wednesday afternoon but that has been moved to Thursday.
Sixty-two of Wednesday’s new cases are located in Belleville, 25 are in Quinte West, Prince Edward County has 11, there are 10 in Central Hastings, seven on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory and three each in Deseronto and North Hastings.
Sixty-one cases are considered fully vaccinated with 36 unvaccinated and the rest partially vaccinated.
There are 14 new cases under the age of 18.
Prince Edward County staff have confirmed there are five lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 amongst the staff at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home, as of Tuesday, January 4.
The staff members contracted COVID-19 through community spread and not through contacts at the Home. The staff members who have received positive tests have not been inside H.J. McFarland Memorial Home for several days.
In Northumberland Wednesday, the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported 54 new cases and 550 active.
