A pursuit involving Quinte West OPP Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of one person.
Around 8:45 a.m., police attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401 near Aikins Road.
A pursuit began but it was discontinued for safety reasons when the suspect vehicle accelerated to more than 170 km/hr.
Investigation led officers to a Belleville address, where it was learned that the vehicle was allegedly taken without the owner’s consent.
While officers were at the residence, the accused drove by on two separate occasions and again failed to stop for police.
Police located the vehicle down the street and the accused was found a short distance away hiding behind a tree.
Twenty-six-year-old Matthew Corbin of Toronto faces several charges:
Flight from peace officer;
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
Operation while prohibited;
Take motor vehicle without consent;
Failure to comply with undertaking – two counts; and
Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed (Stunt Driving)
The accused was scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Wednesday.
