2021 was a year of many achievements for Executive Director Lesley Lavender and the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce.
Among a long list of accomplishments, the chamber hosted its first ever Business Excellence awards.
“Those are the people that sponsor our kids’ sports teams and contribute to the greater good of Prince Edward County and we wanted to recognize and celebrate not only what they’re doing for business but also for the community and the impact that they’re having.”
She said there were over 40 nominations across six categories to recognize local businesses.
Like many other organizations, the Prince Edward County Chamber handled the distribution of rapid COVID-19 tests to local businesses this year.
Lavender said it was a tall task, but thanks to some system upgrades at the chamber the rollout was smooth.
“With our website and the digital upgrades that we did on the backend we actually were able to run out a pretty slick program that’s on our website for registering and for scheduling your pick-ups and that, but we have seen an incredible uptick in the last few weeks as you can imagine with Omicron and the other variants that have happened over the last few months, so we have distributed over 12,000 and that’s being conservative, it might be more than that.”
Through the rapid testing distribution, the chamber has supported over 200 businesses according to Lavender.
