Quinte Conservation says parking fees generated over the last several years have helped to make upgrades at a variety of conservation areas throughout the Quinte Watershed.
Corporate Services Manager Tammy Smith says this year alone they were able to make upgrades at six conservation areas thanks to revenue from annual parking passes or day use.
Upgrades include two new screened trails at Vanderwater and Sheffield, new footbridges at Sidney and Macaulay Mountain, a new safety fence and picnic tables, along with trail grading to the cobble stone beach at Little Bluff, and new picnic tables for Depot Lakes.
A variety of Conservation Areas also received new entrance and educational signage, native species plantings, invasive species control, general maintenance, and GPS updates to trail mapping.
Last year, a screened trail was also added at the H.R. Frink Centre to allow ease of access particularly for those with mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and walkers, or those with strollers.
