A community food drive in Tyendinaga Township helped local families and Quinte area food banks.
Tyendinaga Township CAO Carla Preston tells Quinte News it raised $8,714 and 1,267 pounds of food.
“These donations were sorted and distributed among 12 local families receiving immediate support, and food banks located in Belleville and Deseronto to assist families in need this holiday season.”
The cash was distributed among three local elementary schools for their learning programs.
Preston added, “It is absolutely amazing. For the size of our township which is so small as well. So council then, with the cash donations, they put those donations up between the three elementary schools for their learning programs here in Tyendinaga. That was distributed between Tyendinaga Public School, St. Mary Catholic School in Reid, and Holy Name of Mary Catholic School in Marysville. The food went to 12 families and the food banks in Desoronto, and Belleville.”
Preston said the food drive was initiated by Reeve Rick Phillips and members of the township council.
