Bob Crate was sworn in Wednesday to serve a second term as Northumberland County Warden.
County Council unanimously endorsed Crate for another term in 2022.
Crate called it an honour to return to the role and said he looks forward to continuing work to foster a strong and thriving Northumberland.
Township of Cramahe Mayor Mandy Martin was sworn in for a second term as Deputy Warden.
Northumberland County Council also approved its 2022 budget on Wednesday.
The 2022 Budget includes a 3.11% levy increase after growth, which is comprised of:
- A base levy increase of 1.85%
- A dedicated infrastructure investment of 0.85% and
- Hospital funding of 0.41%
This amounts to $63.3 million in levy funding towards the total $181.3 million County budget.
It will mean an approximately $38 annual property tax increase for a median single family detached home.
Highlights of projects and services supported by this budget include:
- Funding for Northumberland Hills and Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundations for investment in essential capital equipment.
- Advancements in capital projects such as the Golden Plough Loge & Northumberland County Archives and Museum redevelopment, the Elgin Park and Ontario Street community housing projects, and the Campbellford Bridge project.
- Surface treatment for over 120 km of municipal and County roads, along with assessment, design and construction work on a variety of roads, intersections, culverts and retaining walls throughout the county.
- Affordable Housing Strategy initiatives including the Capital Grant Program to increase the supply of affordable rental housing, and funds for strategic land acquisition for future community housing development.
- Economic development initiatives including manufacturing attraction activities; micro-grants, coaching and training to grow small businesses; and tourism experience development.
