The number of active COVID-19 cases in Hastings Prince Edward decreased on Tuesday with recoveries outpacing new cases however the number of people being treated in hospital and the ICU increased.
HPE Public Health reported 26 new cases and 51 recoveries leaving 231 active cases, down from 256 on Monday.
Hospitalizations increased from six to 10 with six people currently in the Intensive Care Unit, two more than yesterday.
Of the new cases, six are under the age of 18 with four under the age of 12.
Nine new cases are located in Belleville, six in Trenton, five in Centre Hastings, three in the Deseronto area, two in Prince Edward County and one in North Hastings.
Fourteen cases are unvaccinated and a dozen are fully vaccinated.
The HPE Public Health dashboard now shows 29 ongoing outbreaks.
There are new outbreaks at Prince Charles Public and George Vanier Catholic Schools in Belleville as well as the Empire Theatre where there are two cases each.
An outbreak at St. Mary Catholic School in Trenton has four cases connected to it.
The health unit dashboard shows the outbreak at Harry J. Clark Public School in Belleville is ongoing however, a letter from Public Health to the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board Tuesday has declared the outbreak over.
The school board shared a copy of the letter on Twitter.
The outbreak was declared on November 28 and had 10 cases linked to it.
The school remained open.
The outbreak at Marmora Public School is up to 24 cases.
The school was shut down last week until the new year with student shifting to virtual learning.
Public Health reports 78% of the eligible local population have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
It also says while individuals who are not fully vaccinated represent 22% of HPE’s total population, they amount to 54% of active cases in the region.
