Rogers Communications will be bringing high speed internet to some residents of Thurlow ward over the next three years.
Rogers representatives told Belleville city council Monday that design was getting underway on installation of state of the art fibre optic technology to at least 764 under-serviced premises in Thurlow.
The upgrade could mean internet speeds as high as 1.5 gigabits per second at times.
The $140 million cost of the project would be paid for by Rogers.
It’s expected the company will have initial plans ready for the build-out within three to six months with the goal of finishing the project by the end of 2024.
Some of the installation will be underground while some could be above ground, depending on location.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk asked Rogers to try to put the service on Harmony and Casey Roads and the representatives said the company would consider the request.
