The Belleville General Hospital Foundation is still going to have their annual gala this weekend, however they are pivoting the type of event they are having.
On the Lorne Brooker Show on Wednesday, BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook announced they would be switching to a virtual event this Saturday instead of the planned in-person gathering at The Grand (former Greek Hall in Belleville).
“We were all really excited about the event and then unfortunately the recent surge in cases, the safety of the community becomes paramount and priority.”
Cook says the rising number of COVID-19 is the reason for the change.
Steve Cook – “Obviously we have a lot of stakeholders involved in that event, be it musicians for the bands, the food, the hall.”
Lorne Brooker – “Yeah, this is not three moths in advance, this is three days.”
Steve Cook – “Exactly that so, as you can appreciate an incredibly busy and stressful time.”
He says the event is their largest single fundraiser of the year.
The BGHF’s Winter Wonderland gala has a goal of around $700,000 which would complete the fundraising for advanced diagnostic equipment for nuclear medicine. It is part of a $2.9 million goal for nuclear medicine overall.
