There are lots of good feelings about the things to come at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Paul Ferguson, chair of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation addressed Quinte West council on Monday night and stated they must build on the tradition of patient care for the 21st century.
He said the Foundation needs the community to support the new direction the hospital is taking.
CEO of Quinte Health Stacey Daub says service delivery has changed and QHC is offering more virtual care, the patients they are seeing are sicker and human resources are scarce.
She said QHC is hoping to grow and develop the emergency department along with the inpatient unit, inevitably leading to the building of a new hospital.
Daub stated a stronger hospital needs a strong community to support it, as getting a new hospital built isn’t easy.
Ferguson told council the TMHF needs the community to help with this new direction and massive input of funding to support equipment needs.
He said the hospital needs $4.7 million in medical equipment in the next five years for development and enhancement at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
They are seeking a commitment of $1 million from the City of Quinte West as a vote of confidence in this new direction.
A motion was made to refer the request back to the grants committee and have it come forward during budget discussions.
