Hockey fans will now be able to eat and drink at two arenas in Quinte West.
Councillors passed a motion during their meeting on Monday night to allow the canteens to reopen at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens in Trenton and the Dr. McMullen Recreation Centre in Frankford.
The motion was brought forward following a request from management of the Trenton Jr. A Golden Hawks who noted many other local arenas opened their canteens last month and noted opening the canteens would help mitigate losses this season.
Council was worried about who would monitor fans in attendance at the arena to ensure they were following the rules but passed the motion after specifying that fans could only eat or drink in their seats or in the auditorium.
The motion also applies to minor hockey which runs every day, not just during Golden Hawks games.
