The Prince Edward Family Health team is asking Prince Edward County council for help getting physicians to the area.
According to a deputation to be made to council at its meeting Wednesday, the need for physician recruitment to the county is dire.
With five confirmed departures happening in 2022 and certainly more in the few years after, the need for physician recruitment is higher than ever.
The deputation cites things like the lack of available housing in the county and the intense competition of nearby urban municipalities as reasons for the strain on the recruitment efforts.
According to the deputation, the county is well below neighbouring municipalities when it comes to offering financial incentive to potential doctors in the area. Most of the nearby areas including Kingston, Quinte West, Belleville and Napanee generally offer $100,000 or more in incentives while the county offers just $10,000.
The PEFHT is suggesting financial incentives of $100,000 over five years for physicians and that they join the Docs By The Bay program which also includes Brighton.
