Work continues to ensure people working in an area near the north wall of the new Belleville Police headquarters don’t have to bundle up as winter weather sets in.
The north wall was part of the existing building but didn’t have the insulated exterior cladding that was installed on the new addition and has been colder than it should be.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk says such problems shouldn’t be occurring in a just completed building and stressed that neither the previous council or police services board had been told of any decisions regarding the insulation.
Police Chief Mike Callaghan told council Monday that in 2018 he recommended that the exterior cladding be installed on the north wall but no action was taken on his recommendation.
HVAC experts are currently working to resolve the heating issues and if no solutions are found Chief Callaghan says he’d recommend an insulated exterior cladding be installed at an estimated cost of $200,000.
There is about $1 million left in the police building construction fund.
