The Belleville Senators could not find the scoresheet on Wednesday night in Utica as they fell 2-0 to the Comets.
Akira Schmid made 23 saves to earn his second career shutout and beat the Senators for the second time in as many starts.
First-period tallies from Reilly Walsh and Brian Flynn proved the difference on this night for the league-leading Comets. Utica showed their defensive prowess stifling a Belleville Senators’ team that had previously won four consecutive, outscoring their opponents 21-9. The Senators’ last loss came to the same Utica Comets on November 14.
Mads Sogaard made 24 saves in the net, keeping Belleville within striking distance throughout the game despite being unable to capitalize on the power play going 0/5 on the night.
Captain Logan Shaw made his season debut, and Cole Reinhardt played in his 50th AHL game.
