A long list of individuals and businesses have been charged by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health for non-compliance with COVID-19 regulations this year.
It includes charges against 12 businesses, including 21 against one restaurant, plus various charges against individuals.
The charges were revealed during a meeting of the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health on Wednesday.
Fifty charges have been laid so far in 2021 against multiple business, including 21 against Wild Wings in Belleville.
Director of public health programs Eric Serwotka told the board, “We felt there would be a great benefit both to the board, but also to the community. It’s important that people understand the environment and get a sense of what levels of protection are out there in the community as well.”
“I still think the majority of operators of businesses are doing their best to comply so this can be over with,” said Andrew Landy, the health unit’s manager of health environments.
Manager Roberto Almeida said the number of charges laid is small when compared both to the number of premises inspected and the number of complaints.
The health unit had received 4,261 complaints.
