Belleville city council is set to discuss a proposed capital budget a week from today that, if passed, would be a record for capital spending.
Council will be presented with a capital budget totalling $76.6 million, more than double last year’s budget of $36 million.
About $20 million of that will pay for the relocation of the Belleville Agricultural Society from its former location at the fairgrounds in the west end to property near Black Diamond Road.
However, that spending will be paid for over time by the sale and development of the fairgrounds property.
$40.3 million of the $76.6 million will go toward new assets and development while $36.4 million is earmarked for asset maintenance and replacement.
Major infrastructure upgrades are to be done in the Murney Street, Orchard Drive, and Rollins Drive areas with each project costing between $3 and $4 million.
The capital budget, as proposed, will not contribute to a tax increase to residents.
Council discusses the capital budget next Monday, December 6.
