Quinte West council will consider an intriguing proposal for downtown Trenton at its next council meeting.
The Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee recently approved a staff report regarding pedestrianization of a portion of downtown during the summer.
This would mean a section of one of the main roads would be shut down so people can walk about the roads freely.
The staff report suggests that a portion of Front Street, from Dundas Street West to Elgin Street, be closed in the Trenton downtown core during July and August of 2022.
Further it recommends that enhancements be added to RiverFront Square for the same months.
These actions would be taken to increase foot traffic and tourism attraction downtown during peak summer tourism season.
The only downsides listed on the staff report regarding this location for the pedestrianization are that Front Street is narrow, businesses may need to adapt for their deliveries and it limits the street to one way traffic only.
Council will review the recommendation at its next meeting on December 6.
