There has been a massive spike in cases of COVID-19 in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and the health unit is reporting another death due to the virus.
There were 22 new cases Friday, bringing the active total to 45.
On Thursday there were 26 active cases.
COVID is now responsible for 15 deaths across the two counties since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the new cases, 16 are unvaccinated, five are fully vaccinated and one partially vaccinated.
Sixteen of those cases are in Quinte West with the other six in Belleville.
Ten of the new cases are in individuals 18 and under.
The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard does not show any active outbreaks at this time.
One person remains hospitalized in the ICU.
Ninety percent of local residents aged 12 and over have at least one dose of a COVID vaccine with 85% having received two shots.
Over the last seven days, another 278 people got their first shot and 548 their second.
A third dose booster shot was administered to 1,262 residents.
There was one new case reported Friday in Northumberland.
The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit reports eight active cases.
