A single vehicle crash on Hamilton Road resulted in an arrest in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins in a Trenton neighbourhood.
Monday morning, Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle on Birch Street and discovered 13 vehicles on Birch and John streets had been broken into between the hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Stolen items included electronics, cash, credit and debit cards and personal identification.
A suspect was identified during the investigation and a warrant issued for his arrest.
Late Tuesday night, OPP attended the scene of an accident on Hamilton Road east of Aikins Road where the driver, who showed signs of impairment, identified himself as the individual wanted for the thefts from vehicles.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle involved in the crash had been stolen from a Belleville address.
Forty-tw0-year-old Shane O’Sullivan of Quinte West faces the following charges:
- Operation While Impaired by Drug
- Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation – two counts
- Highway Traffic Act – Careless Driving
- Highway Traffic Act – Driving While Under Suspension
- Liquor License Act – Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
- Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle – two counts
- Trespass at Night – two counts
He was held in custody for a bail hearing Wednesday.
NOTE: a previous release from Quinte West OPP indicated the vehicle thefts occurred October 15. Those incidents actually occurred November 15.
