Several Northumberland festivals and events are receiving a cash infusion from the provincial government to offset the negative impacts of the pandemic.
The money comes from the Reconnect Festival and Event Program.
Peterborough Northumberland MPP David Piccini announced $143,500 including $70,000 for Westben Arts Festival Theatre’s Dare to Share: Arts in Wide Open Spaces.
Westben’s Donna Bennett says the Arts in Wide Open Spaces events, “explore new ways of safely sharing our beautiful corner of rural Ontario with wider audiences. With music at its core, the events include a series of digital and live musical experiences created within a sense of place, inspired by local art, agriculture, food and nature. In addition to building audiences and employing artists, presenters and production personnel, the event fosters positive economic impact for and awareness of the local and regional community while promoting Ontario.”
The rest of the money is being split between the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club’s Diversity Festival, Cultivate’s Hibernate Festival and Port Hope’s Candlelight Festival.
The Ontario government is investing nearly $50 million to support 439 festivals and
events across the province.
