Three Bay of Quinte residents are being honoured by the YMCA of Central East Ontario for their contributions to the community.
Each year the YMCA awards Peace Medals to people who embody the values of Peace, Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community, Empowerment.
This year’s award winners include Belleville’s Eric and Liz Lehtinen and Quinte West’s John Williams who is being awarded the medal posthumously.
The Lehtinens earned the award by using their business, Impacto Protective Products, to support the Children’s Foundation, the Belleville General Hospital and more.
They were nominated for and won the Small Business of the Year and Large Business of the Year awards at the Quinte Business Achievement Awards and in 2021 Eric won the Businessperson of the Year award.
Williams’ work as mayor of Quinte West including bringing the YMCA to Trenton, building the Trent Port Marina and strengthening the bond between 8 Wing CFB Trenton and the community earned him the award posthumously.
