At Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Prince Edward County Council easily passed a motion by Mayor Steve Ferguson asking for a way to honour local individuals who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces that goes beyond Remembrance Day.
Staff will consult with the Royal Canadian Legion and others to develop an annual program during the month of November that publicly honours County residents who have served their country.
Mayor Ferguson says the program would run in conjunction with Remembrance Day.
“But I also hope it would amplify the meaning of Remembrance Day. And what the program involves might be pictorial street banners, museum displays, coordinated events with other stakeholders and organizations.”
Staff will present a proposal by the end of June that, if approved, would commence in November 2022.
