This Friday evening, the Trenton Golden Hawks are hosting the Wellington Dukes as part of their regular season series called the Hasty Ps Cup (honouring the Hastings-Prince Edward Regiment). The game is going to be steeped in military celebration, with Snowbird Captain Richard MacDougall as the special guest.
MacDougall is a 36-year-old pilot, who was injured in 2020, after a tragic accident in Kelowna, BC, as the Snowbirds team was on Operation Inspiration, bringing hope to Canadians living through the COVID-19 pandemic. The accident not only injured Captain MacDougall, it took the life of former Quinte West resident, Captain Jennifer Casey (former member of Quinte News). MacDougall will drop the puck during the pre-game ceremony, and will be honoured for his service to Canada.
On Saturday night Captain MacDougall will drop the puck at the CAA Arena as the Belleville Senators host Military Appreciation Night. The game, against the Bridgeport Islanders, will begin at 7 p.m. with CJBQ’s broadcast starting at 6:50.
The Moncton native has flown for the military for more than a decade, including a six-year stint as a Hercules pilot at CFB Winnipeg. He became a Snowbird Captain in the summer of 2019.
