Local volunteers, students and school representatives recently gathered in Marmora to celebrate a playground that’s been more than 10 years in the making.
Through fundraising and community partnerships, Marmora Public School now has three separate play structures suitable for students from kindergarten to grade 8, along with swings and new benches.
The earlier playground equipment was removed in 2009 and never replaced.
In 2017, Marmora’s elementary and senior schools amalgamated to one location resulting in a population of more than 300 students who did not have a proper place to play.
Through fundraising and donations, MPS raised $75,000.
Next steps for the project include rehabilitation of the school’s track and the addition of outdoor shade structures.
Fundraising for those projects is currently underway.
