Shorelines Casino workers continued picketing in Belleville Sunday in hopes of a “fair and equitable” deal that would see wages increase.
The strike began Friday after 84% of workers voted down an offer from the employer that would see wages increase but still leave them within 65 cents of minimum wage.
The workers are represented by Unifor Local 1090 and President Corey Dalton tells Quinte News that talks are still on hold as Great Canadian Gaming has filed an injunction claiming the workers are engaged in “unlawful picketing.”
He said the hope is that the legal issue will be resolved within a few days so they can get back to negotiating and that “this is going to be solved in the board room, not the court room.”
Dalton also said that they’re trying to make the picketing as safe as possible for workers after there were three separate instances of picketers being “bumped” by vehicles that approached the picket line on Friday.
One of these incidents resulted in a picketer being knocked over and sent multiple feet away.
He said the police were called and the driver was taken away.
