Quinte West OPP are seeking the public’s help as they investigate vandalism at several cemeteries.
It’s believed the four cemeteries were vandalized between Friday and Sunday with an estimated 50 – 75 headstones damaged.
Multiple headstones were spray painted at the Mount Evergreen Cemetery on Stockdale Road.
Headstones and property were also damaged at St. George’s Cemetery on 2nd Dug Hill Road, Mount Calvary Cemetery on Byrne Avenue, and Mount Zion Cemetery on Downs Road
Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers.
The City of Quinte West says, in the meantime, a contractor is assessing each of the stones that was vandalized at the two city-maintained cemeteries that were affected.
The monuments will be cleaned and returned to as close to their original condition as possible.
“This thoughtless crime is incredibly upsetting to the families and other loved ones of people laid to rest in our cemeteries,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “We are working to have all necessary repairs completed as soon as possible.”
