Quinte Conservation is looking forward to building a foundation that will be used to help preserve environmental areas.
This is a goal from the strategic plan for the organization.
Officials expect to begin work on it in the new year.
The actual financial goal for projects will be developed through the strategic planning process involving the public, stakeholders and interest groups.
CAO Brad McNevin explains it could involve someone wanting to do tree planting on their land.
“Because they had lots of land they wanted to cover in trees, we could apply to the foundation, secure some funding through the foundation and help that landowner plant trees in their fields.”
“To protect the wetland, through maybe purchasing it with, in conjunction with the municipality or another partner Ducks Unlimited to protect it to allow it to have its own environmental function.”
McNevin expects the program to begin in the new year.
