The government of Ontario is expanding its community paramedicine for long term care homes to Hastings, Lennox and Addington.
The program, fully funded by the government, is already in 33 communities including Hastings County and is being expanded to 22 more.
The program is designed to improve in-home care for seniors who are waiting for long term care beds.
The services include access to health services 24/7 through in-home and remote methods, non-emergency home visits and in-home testing procedures, monitoring of vital signs to prevent escalation of chronic medical conditions, assessments, referrals, diagnostic procedures, and point-of-care testing.
