The City of Belleville received almost $591,000 Thursday from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, its second quarter payment for hosting Shorelines Casino Belleville.
The second quarter covered July 1 through September 30 however the casino actually didn’t open until July 16 under Step 3 of the province’s COVID reopening plan.
As might be expected, the payout is less than usual.
For instance, the city received $883,000 in non-tax gaming revenue for the second quarter in 2019.
And the fourth quarter of 2020, which included revenue from January 1 to March 31, resulted in $656,000 going to the city.
During that quarter, casinos were closed mid-March as part of the first provincial shutdown due to the pandemic.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith says the provincial government is pleased that casinos have reopened safely and host communities are once again benefitting from the local employment and financial proceeds that they provide.
Belleville has received almost $11 million in non-tax gaming revenue since January 2017.
