It’s been a very good year for construction in Centre Hastings.
For the year ending in September, building permits valued at almost $16.4 million have been issued at
Centre Hastings.
Centre Hastings.
For the first nine months of last year permits were issued with a value just $9.5 million.
Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline says the big increase is due to new housing being built.
While he likes the construction activity he shares the concerns of many others.
“As an individual I have concerns how our younger people are going to be able to afford to buy a home in this area and the biggest problem I foresee is lack of rental housing for seniors particularly.”
Deline says new housing is being built in and close to Madoc and with more people from outside the area moving to smaller centres many larger rural lots are being purchased and built on.
