The President and CEO of Quinte Health Care says the vast majority of the organization’s staff is already fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Speaking to Belleville council Tuesday Stacey Daub said that 97% of all staff had been fully vaccinated.
More specifically, 99% of all doctors working at local hospitals had received two doses of vaccine.
Daub added that a few people refused to get vaccinated and she respected their decision but that QHC’s first priority had to be the safety of patients and staff.
Quinte Health Care has set an October 31 deadline for full vaccination and staff not complying will face a sliding scale of consequences which could include termination.
Meanwhile, Daub said QHC is hoping for support from Belleville city council and other councils in the region.
QHC’s president said the region’s leaders should be speaking as one voice and pushing for more senior government support for hospitals, and home and primary care services.
Daub also said councils and QHC should continue working together to attract and keep physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, technicians, and other medical professionals.
As she has in the past, Daub stressed that many health care providers are exhausted and there’s a growing shortage of medical staff not only locally but province-wide.
