Prince Edward County council will consider a staff report recommending they award a tender for a pedestrian crossing project in Bloomfield at Tuesday’s meeting.
According to the staff report an accident on Wellington Main Street in 2017 that resulted in a death spurred a need for “safe and controlled pedestrian crossings.”
A crosswalk warrant study was conducted by Jewell Engineering Inc., and found there was a need for pedestrian crossings on Wellington Main Street and Bloomfield Main Street.
Once it was settled what type of crosswalk was warranted, staff had to consult with the Ministry of Transportation due to Bloomfield Main Street being a connecting link.
Once consultation with the ministry was done, the county put out a request for tender with a closing date of September 23, 2021 for which they received two offers.
Staff are recommending that council approve the tender of $125,231 from Drew Harrison Haulage Ltd. to build the pedestrian crossing directly adjacent to the Corey Street intersection, where there was once already a crossing that was later decommissioned.
Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Highline Hall in Wellington.
