The Trenton Golden Hawks continued to fill the net and improved to 3-0 on the season against the Lindsay Muskies Friday night.
The Golden Hawks have scored early and often so far this season, outscoring opponents 16-6 heading into Friday’s game.
Trenton took an early lead just five minutes into the first when forward Jake Campbell scored off a misplayed puck in the corner that left him wide open in the slot.
That would be the only goal in the first period and Trenton took a 1-0 lead into the second.
The game opened up in the second period when the Muskies tied the game halfway through the frame with a power play goal forward Jakob Morier and with under five minutes to go, Lindsay took the lead when captain Will Jones scored from the hash marks.
With just 40 seconds to go in the second the Golden Hawks charged back and scored to tie it when forward Matthew Cato caught a break and scored in alone to tie it up.
At the end of the second period Muskies captain Will Jones was cited for removing his helmet on the ice, an automatic two game suspension.
Trenton broke the game open in the third period when veteran forward Dalton Bancroft stole a puck in the neutral zone to go in alone on Muskies goalie Ethan Fraser, scoring to make it 3-2.
With time dwindling down Golden Hawks forward Jordyn Mughal scored the dagger to make it 4-2 and a minute later Campbell scored his second of the night on the empty net.
The Golden Hawks took the game 5-2 backed by a strong 36 save performance by goaltender William Nguyen.
Defenceman Julien Jacob led the way for Trenton with three assists, Campbell scored two goals and Bancroft had one of each.
It was a spirited bout with multiple scrums breaking out and both teams combining for 40 minutes in penalties on 19 infractions.
The Golden Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 16 on the road against the Toronto Junior Canadiens.
