Cross-country news from the Bay of Quinte Invitational, October 6, 2021
After almost two years without high school cross-country, the East Northumberland Secondary School cross-country team hosted over 300 runners from 25 schools at the Bay of Quinte Invitational cross-country meet in Dunnett Orchards on October 6. Race organizers are grateful to Mr. Bob Dunnett for welcoming the high school athletes and coaches into Dunnett Orchards.
ENSS won the overall team title with 36 points. Second place went to Trinity College School (30) and Cobourg Collegiate Institute (26) finished third.
In the novice girls’ race, Sophie Harold (Cobourg CI) won the individual title in a course record of 15:37 over 3.70 km. ENSS won the team title in that race, thanks to efforts by Abby Clitherow (12), Cadence Tait (14), Kaite Hazlewood (20), Claire McDonald (21), Julia Leger, Ella Bernard, Tory McMurray, Olivia Bell, August Nadolny, Emily Metcalf and Gracie Davis.
James McMurray (Fenlon Falls SS) set the Novice boys’ course record (13:32) over 3.70 km. ENSS took the team title. ENSS runners included Ethan Miklos (8), Braeden Lay (9), Dex Slone (12), Luca Walsh (22), Charlie Mooney (23), Dium DeCoste, Logan Rivard and Aiden Guitar.
Poppy Thomson (Adam Scott CVI) won the junior girls’ race over 4.75 km in a record 18:49. The top junior girls’ team from St. Peter CSS included Chloe Freeman (4), Hailey Silvestri (5), Noelle Bowley (13) and Piper Scott (14).
Gabriel Roti (Lakefield CS) took the 4.75 km junior boys’ course in a record 17:13 and he led his teammates – Richard Hong (4), Nate Andras (15) and Alistair Fraser (24) – to the junior boys’ team title.
