The two newest hockey franchises in the Quinte area made their debuts this weekend with contrasting results.
The Tweed Oil Kings chalked up two victories defeating the Frontenac Phantoms 6-5 on Saturday night. Brett Beckett scored twice with two assists. Andrew Rhynold also scored twice.
In their home opener the Oil Kings knocked off the Deseronto Bulldogs 5-3 with 400 spectators in attendance at the Tweed Community Centre. Murray Free scored twice.
It didn’t go well for the expansion Frankford Huskies as they went 0-2 in their debut in the Provincial Junior “C” Hockey League.
The Huskies dropped a 6-1 decision to the visiting Picton Pirates on Saturday night before losing 9-0 on the road to the Amherstview Jets on Sunday.
