It’s been almost 19 months since the Belleville Senators have been able to skate on their own ice at the CAA Arena but that changes today.
Thirty-four players are on ice today as the B-Sens open their training camp. Twenty of them took part in the parent Ottawa Senators camp as well as 13 who suited up for Belleville during last year’s shortened season when they played their home games in Ottawa due to COVID.
The roster includes five goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 17 forwards. Included are highly touted D-man Jacob Bernard Docker and returning forward Igor Sokolov who led all AHL rookies with 15 goals last season.
It’s expected Belleville’s final roster will have 23 to 25 players.
The B-Sens host a three team exhibition round robin tournament this weekend. Belleville plays Laval Friday night at 7:00. The Rocket face the Toronto Marlies Saturday afternoon at 4:00 then the B-Sens meet the Marlies Sunday afternoon at 4:00. All games are at the CAA Arena.
Belleville opens their 5th season in the American Hockey League October 15 in Laval with the home opener one night later.
