If the result of Wellington’s final exhibition game is any indication, the Dukes are ready for the new OJHL season which begins Friday night.
Wellington jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two periods before settling on a 6-2 victory over the Cougars in Cobourg.
Barret Joynt scored and set the tone in the first period with a short handed goal and one on the power play. He also had an assist for a three point night.
The Dukes also got goals from Emmit Pierce, Will Mitchell, Ethan Quick and Payton Schaly. Matt Dunsmoore went the distance in goal turning aside 28 shots.
The Dukes open the OJHL season at home Friday night when they host the Mississauga Chargers at 7:30 at Lehigh Arena.
The Trenton Golden Hawks also open the season Friday night when they host the Cobourg Cougars at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens at 7:30.
