Water levels on many local waterways are still quite high following last week’s rain.
Quinte Conservation issued a watershed conditions statement Monday, noting that last week’s heavy rains dropped an average of 70 mm of precipitation to the Quinte region Watersheds.
Some regions north of Highway 7, in particular the Black River watershed, received over 130 mm of rain.
This significant rainfall resulted in a rapid rise in flows in the Black River, and to a lesser extent the Upper Moira, and Skootamatta Rivers.
Most bodies of water in the upper Moira watershed reached their peak over the weekend and are starting to decline.
The Conservation says lake levels will decline more slowly than rivers.
Low, end of season lake levels did help the situation.
Quinte Conservation staff will continue to monitor lake level status but anticipate the fall draw down dam operations to commence as scheduled on, or after, October 12th.
