It looks like Hastings County is taking back its proposed donation to public health in the fight against COVID-19.
At its meeting Tuesday the county’s Finance Committee decided to recommend that the $200,000 donation offer be rescinded and that the money be put in the county’s reserve funds.
The Finance Committee is recommending that it be used to respond to the county’s financial pressures of the pandemic.
Director of Finance Sue Horwood told the committee that the county has made it through the peak period of the pandemic when the case loads were high.
“The feeling is the emergency has passed and any costs now would be part of normal operations that should be shared by all the parties.”
Horwood says she has spoken to the chair of the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health regarding the issue.
County Council will deal with the recommendation later this month.
