On August 5, 2021, at 10:58 p.m., members from the Northumberland OPP, Fire and Emergency Medical Services attended the scene of a fatal collision involving a single motor vehicle that occurred on Sylvan Glen Rd in the municipality Port Hope. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the ditch. As a result of the collision, Serena Shaw, age 23, of Hamilton Township, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased.
As a result of the investigation, the Northumberland OPP have charged Jason Bickle, age 39, of Port Hope with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – operation causing death
- Dangerous operation causing death
- Dangerous operation
The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Cobourg on November 3, 2021.
