The month of October will be one to remember the communities’ role in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families.
Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society will be running its “Dress Purple Day” campaign.
Highland Shores’ Jennifer Bishop says only about 20% of referrals to children’s aid involve extreme cases of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse of children and youth.
“Most of the issues that our families are dealing with include mental health concerns, addictions, social isolation, trauma, and extreme financial stress.”
Highland Shores CAS offers education and programs to families in difficulty and Bishop says about 97% of all CAS investigations into child abuse are completed with children remaining in the home and only 3% ending with the kids having to come under the care of CAS.
Dress Purple Day is October 27.
