COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics Coming to Local Schools
Students and teachers are not the only people returning to school this fall.
Starting this week, staff from the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit will be holding COVID-19 vaccination clinics in local high schools for students, staff, parents and members of the school community. The clinics are being offered in partnership with the local school boards and are designed to increase access to the vaccine for those individuals not yet vaccinated.
Clinics will take place over two days in each of the 11 secondary schools in the HKPR region in September and then again October to provide first and second doses of vaccine to area residents born in 2009 or earlier who have yet to be vaccinated.
“We know that many residents have not yet been vaccinated, either because they were unable to travel to a mass immunization clinic or did not have the time available to get vaccinated,” says Dr. Natalie Bocking, Medical Officer of Health for the HKPR District Health Unit. “Mobile clinics, like the ones planned for local schools, provide an opportunity for individuals to get vaccinated in their community. Individuals do not need an appointment and the entire family can come to the clinics for first or second doses.”
Schools within Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) will have clinics run 11 am to 3 pm for students and staff only of the respective school, and then 4 to 7 pm for students, staff, parents, and members of the community on:
- Haliburton High School – September 14 and 15
- Fenelon Falls High School – September 16 and 17
- I.E. Weldon Secondary School – September 20 and 21,
- Lindsay Collegiate Vocational Institute (LCVI) – September 22 and 23
Schools within the Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit (KPR) and the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB) will have clinics 4 to 7 pm for students, staff, parents, and members of the community on:
- Campbellford High School – September 14 and 15
