Belleville council will discuss Mayor Mitch Panciuk’s proposal to increase the number of electoral wards in the city to four from the current two at its meeting Monday.
Public input was via online survey, emails, letters, and phone calls, the vast majority of which came from the online survey which received 724 responses.
Some of results indicated 60% of respondents didn’t believe services would improve in the rural area in the four ward system.
Fifty-six percent did not believe it would simplify voting and 60% were not in favour of the four ward system.
Seventy-seven percent of online respondents had lived in Belleville for 11 years or longer.
Staff is recommending council take no action and simply receive the report.
