DEVELOPMENT CHARGES
Development charges are going up in the Municipality of Brighton.
Each year in September Brighton council adjusts the charges according to building construction price indexes provided by Statistics Canada.
Effective soon, development charges will be go up 7.65%.
This means the charges will go up to $11,336 on a single family or semi-detached home from $10,530 last year in urban Brighton.
The cost will be slightly less in rural areas.
POP-UP SHOPS
Already popular in Belleville, Quinte West, and Tyendinaga Territory, Brighton council will consider allowing pop-up retail and food shops next season.
Brighton’s Economic Development Committee is proposing a total of six pop-up shops be set up in King Edward Park, three in a renovated canteen building and three outside.
Cost of construction on canteens is estimated at $35,000 and there would be an initial $2,000 operating budget in the first year.
Brighton council will consider the proposal during its 2022 budget discussions.
