It’s more than just the start of a new school year in Central Hastings.
Tuesday, the newly-named Central Hastings School in Madoc opened as a K-12 school.
It is the amalgamation of two schools: Madoc Public School, which closed at the end of June 2021, and Centre Hastings Secondary School, which served students in grades 9-12.
CHS enrolment is presently at 800 students.
The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board received $8.5 million in Ministry of Education funding to consolidate the schools to create a K-12 school.
It involved three major construction/renovation projects including constructing a two-room kindergarten addition, as well as renovations within the school and improvements to the school grounds.
