The Lower Trent Valley Fish and Game Club is hosting a ladies day September 19th.
Nick Soper is organizing the day and says they are up to about 40 women.
“Some first time shooters, some have been out once or twice before. We’re going to teach some of these women how to shoot. Some of them have never done it before, some have it on a bucket list, and some just want to do it for a birthday.”
“Various hand guns, some long rifles, some shot guns, we’re going to have a gun on the trap and skeet range, they’ll be able to shoot some clay birds, door prizes, some giveaways, refreshments in the afternoon. Just to get people involved, to get them out and enjoy the sport.”
Soper says women are the fastest growing demographic in the sport.
“For a lot of them it’s intimidating. They show up on the range and it’s a bunch of guys that are military or law enforcement and they train the way they work, so they’re all kitted out. It’s taught by mostly females . It’s not about doing better, it’s just getting out and doing it.”
