Construction on the second phase of the new Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is moving ahead one year ahead of schedule.
Representatives of the Humane Society announced Friday that the second phase will begin and is expected to finish at the same time as the first phase which began in July.
The second phase is a community and education centre that will be part of the new animal care and adoption centre building at 34 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road.
In a press release, HSHPE Board of Directors Chair Donna Endicott said that the acceleration of the second phase was made possible through a recent anonymous donation as well as loans from the cities of Belleville and Quinte West and constructions savings generated by TaskForce Engineering.
The community and education centre will be a space for programming and events.
The completion date for construction of the animal care and adoption centre and the community and education centre is July of 2022.
