Local public health officials support the principle of having a passport for COVID-19 vaccinations.
Outgoing Hastings Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health Dr. Peter Oglaza told Quinte News on Wednesday that “you can see in the school system proof that vaccinations work.”
“We want to make sure that everyone who’s on the fence who might be delaying the decision to immunize for whatever reason. People are busy with their lives. This provides that additional nudge to increase the uptake.”
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ethan Toumishey says, “The situation we’re in, I would be supportive of this going into the fall at the huge risk of delta spread (COVID).”
At a meeting of the Board of Health, Chair Joanne Albert said, “We definitely need a passport or whatever. AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) motion sent to the premier to implement a certificate program.
