Unifor’s national president has spoken out about plans to cut long-term care jobs at Hallowell House Picton.
In a news release issued Thursday, union head Jerry Dias says the facility’s owner Revera has “learned nothing during this pandemic.”
He goes on to say the company continues its profit over people business model.
Revera is laying off nine staff members due to a new mandate from the provincial government that has resulted in the reduction of the number of residents per ward room from four to two.
Hallowell House workers have been holding daily information pickets and Thursday afternoon they were joined by Katha Fortier, Assistant to the Unifor National President.
Revera has not responded to Quinte News request for comment.
