The Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries joined the Lorne Brooker Show on Wednesday to discuss the return to normal life.
Lisa MacLeod was in the Quinte region as part of a ten-week trip across the province. MacLeod says the industries she represents were the first and hardest hit, and will be the last to recover.
She says a lot of the sectors she is responsible for are going to require vaccinations.
“Obviously I have a vested interest in the Belleville Senators as an Ottawa resident and I want to see them succeed. Of course we have invested into the theatre here (Empire), so I want to make sure they’re in a good place. We have a proposal in front of us that Dr (Kieran) Moore (Chief Medical Officer of Health) is in receipt of.”
She says the proposal is to increase capacity in the sector, but it needs to be done safely, and at the forefront of that is vaccinations.
“Their business model is making gate. Making gate means there’s fans in the stands. I’m not sure some of these entities would be able to survive without a greater capacity limit indoors.”
Mandatory masking and rapid testing will also be something on the table says MacLeod.
